The West Java chapter of the Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPID) and the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) have come up with the idea of giving halal certification to radio and TV programs to prevent any pornographic content.
“TV programs are like food. If food is for our body, then programs are for our soul,” said Salim Umar of MUI West Java branch.
“We will award the halal label in the hope that the programs will gain many viewers and high ratings,” he said, adding that a halal program would not contain pornography.
KPID head Neneng Athiatul Faiziyah said that such certification would protect viewers from bad influences.
“It has been stipulated in the broadcasting law, which states that the programs aired on TV or radio should have content that follows religious values,” said Neneng
